Your duties as a caregiver depend on the needs of the person you’re looking after. It’s important to know that in Germany and Austria, caregivers are allowed to perform only basic tasks. All medical procedures can only be carried out by a professional with the appropriate medical education.

If you want more career opportunities in the care sector, you can undergo special training and obtain a medical caregiver qualification. This will allow you to perform a wider range of tasks and apply for better job conditions. Dahlia Care will support you at every step of this journey.
People who need care are classified into 5 categories based on their level of independence:
1️⃣ Mild Impairments – The person can take care of themselves but needs minimal assistance.
2️⃣ Moderate Impairments – Mobility aids are required, but the person is generally independent.
3️⃣ Significant Limitations – Assistance with daily activities is needed.
4️⃣ Severe Impairments – Continuous support and help with most activities are required.
5️⃣ Severe Disabilities – Special medical care is necessary.
If you don’t have medical training, you can work with people from levels 1 to 4. Only 5% of all patients in Germany require level 5 care, which needs special qualifications.
Your schedule depends on the health condition of the care recipient. Generally, the standard workweek is 40 hours. All conditions, including working hours and breaks, are specified in your employment contract.
